Tips for a Perfect Family Trip to Paris

Over the past few weeks I’ve been working with several clients who are planning a family trip to Paris in the coming months. For many of these families, this is going to be the children’s first European travel experience which is very exciting!
Paris is a city that definitely lives up to it’s reputation and a great introduction to traveling in Europe for kids .¬†With as little as 4 days, you can have a fabulous experience in Paris as a family. And, if you have a bit more time consider combining London and Paris for a fun urban adventure.
For families eager to show their children the history and beauty of Paris, while also simply enjoying some time together in the City of Light, here are 5 tips for a perfect family trip to Paris.

Book an Apartment

And this photo pretty much says it all! Instead of cramming into to tiny hotel room, or spending your entire travel budget on one of the (many) luxury hotels around the city, consider booking one of these lovely, highly curated apartments throughout the city.

These are not just simple Airbnb properties. The apartments are carefully vetted, and come with a concierge who meets you at the apartment upon check in, is available 24/7 for you to use as you would a hotel concierge, and we even stock the kitchen for you with some breakfast and snacking essentials! Amazing value for money, and you also get to experience Paris from the perspective of a local!

Begin with a Behind the Scenes Tour of the Eiffel Tower

While a visit to the Eiffel Tower is of course a must, my clients have the benefit of a private tour complete with behind the scenes access and amazing, kid-friendly guides. Start your time in Paris with this tour, as it’s also a really great way to get a lay of the land and understand Paris and the city’s neighborhoods from a unique vantage point.

Take a Cooking Class

Cooking classes are one of the best ways to learn about a new culture alongside a local, while also having a ton of fun. My clients learn how to cook paella in Spain, a proper pizza in Italy, and in Paris it’s all about making chocolate and the perfect French croissant. Fun and delicious!

Kid-friendly Private Tours are the Only Way

If you’re planning on doing the Versailles, Louvre, or any of the larger museums in Paris, be sure to include a private tour. Not only do these tours get you “skip the line” access so you can breeze right on in, guides are specialized in working with families and kids. Often times the kids will experience the tour as a game, or scavenger hunt. My guides take you through the museums in a fun and engaging way, with the objective of solving a riddle – and upon completing the kids discover a real prize hidden for them in the museum! Very fun.
